Brand Q&A with Dearest Lips

Dearest Lips’ award-winning lip balms are the first of its kind in Australian to be made with cork. The natural cork outer packaging is ethically sourced and home compostable at the end of its life. Each lip balm is handmade in small batches, ensuring they are of the highest quality and you get the smooth buttery consistency every time. No harsh chemicals, no palm oil and vegan-friendly, and available in a variety of flavours to suit everyones taste.

We chatted to Founder Glaiza to find out more about the wonderful lip balms she’s created.

What inspired you to start Dearest Lips?

I was wide awake at 4am, waiting for my newborn’s next cluster feed; adding ‘one more’ lip balm to my online shopping cart. I’m a huge supporter of buying Australian handmade skincare products, and during that moment, I thought, “maybe I can share my love of natural lip balms with likeminded people out there, too?” I ended up throwing an all-nighter; researching, brainstorming ideas, drafting a business plan, goal setting, and visualising a brand that showcases my eco-conscious ethics and beliefs. I was determined to bring this idea to life as I wanted to be the stay-at-home mum for my kids, whilst making an income. My kids, along with my desire for a sustainable future are my biggest inspirations. 2 weeks later, Dearest Lips was born. The fire that ignited this passion hasn’t stopped since.

Why do you choose to use only natural or organic ingredients?

I believe it’s important to use ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced, and actually have a benefit. Ingredients that have not been tested or derived from animals. Ingredients that aren’t harmful, that I’d confidently use on my children.

Dearest Lips Lip Balm

Your favourite lip balm in your collection?

Turkish Delight – I love everything about it. From the process to make it, which leaves a beautiful aroma in the room, to sending them out and being able to share it with others, and to using it on my own lips.

What’s your favourite way to look after yourself?

I write in a gratitude journal daily to set my mind for the day. Showing gratitude and repeating positive affirmations is important for me to maintain a healthy and happy mindset and perspective on life. I also end the day reading a book in bed, as reading always makes me happy.

Currently creating?

I have an exciting project in the works which I can’t wait to reveal. It will be added to our collection, but it’s not a cosmetic item… I’m working with someone who is bringing this idea to life with their creative talents.

Currently reading?

‘The Penderwicks – A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy’

This year my focus is on reading as many books as I can with 300 pages or less. As a busy and often always tired mum of 3, I find that this helps me read more books, without losing momentum.

Favourite travel destination?

Japan! My favourite memory traveling to Japan is climbing Mt Fuji and meeting so many lovely people along the way. The food is delicious, the streets are so clean, and there is always something to do. Hopefully in the future, we can have a family holiday there.

Favourite quote?

“Hard times are often blessings in disguise.”
