Brand Q&A with The Purist Collection

Founded by Naturopath Emily, The Purist Collection is a range of naturally therapeutic products for your body, home and soul with the intention of helping as many women as possible. Inspired by nature and natural therapies (particularly naturopathy, herbal medicine and aromatherapy), Emily hand makes all the natural skincare, herbal teas, and candles to make sure the products actually work!

We chat to Emily to find out more behind her inspiring brand.

What inspired you to start The Purist Collection?

After my mum fell ill with a type of cancer that was found to be genetic when I was 18, I started to realise that I needed to make some serious changes in order to reclaim control of my health and my future, and to become the radiant woman that I think I (and all women) truly deserve to be… all whilst inspiring other women to do the same!

The first step was to ditch an unfulfilling career in fashion, and to instead take up a degree in Naturopathy (a Bachelor of Health Science) to learn everything there was to know about holistic health and natural healing.

With my education came the ability and wisdom to not only help my naturopathic clients, but also to formulate gorgeous, natural skin + lifestyle products – and, in doing so, help an even larger group of women.

Why do you choose to use only natural or organic ingredients?

I understand – I’ve literally seen first-hand, in my clients and in my beautiful Mum, and even in myself – the impacts of using non-natural, conventional products on our health and wellbeing. And ain’t no one got time for that! Especially me.

Our skin is our largest organ; it needs to process everything we put on and into it, just like any other.

Your favourite product?

My Facial Oil was one of the first skincare products in the Collection, and it’s been a very firm favourite of mine ever since – I wear it daily, it absorbs so nicely, and it doubles as an oil cleanser, rash-soother, hair treatment + so much more for me. And it’s still one of the products I get the most amazing feedback on, which is lovely!

Although, having said this… we recently released our first sheet mask, which is actually a limited-edition product, and wow… the Facial Oil might have some real competition here! It’s full of hyaluronic acid and native hydrating goodness.

What’s your favourite way to look after yourself?

Funnily enough, most of my relaxation rituals involve some kind of skin or body care product (or a few!) – I love nothing more than a good face mask while soaking in the bath, but even applying my Body Oil or Lotion every day reminds me to slow down, become present, and give love to my body (because, let’s face it, our bodies are pretty amazing!).

I also love to balance out work with play as much as possible. That’s something I really became acutely aware that I didn’t have enough of in my life last year! So I started roller skating, and haven’t looked back – it’s SO much fun! And it’s one of the very few activities I’m able to totally enjoy without being interrupted by work-related thoughts.

Currently creating?

We’ve got a few really exciting new products in the pipeline for the skincare range at The Purist Collection at the moment, including our facial cleansers, which our poor customers have been crying out for for years, and some super special serums. And we’re working with a couple of other incredible local wellness businesses at the moment on their own products, too.

Aside from that, I’ve just put the finishing touches on a little pinboard I made and covered with a collage of polaroid pictures of all of my loved ones and I. It’s so special, I love it! And putting it together brought up so many wonderful, warm, fuzzy memories.

Currently reading?

I’ve almost always got at least two books on the go, and usually a pretty interesting combo: at the moment it’s Sarah J Maas’s ‘A Court of Thorns & Roses’ series, coupled with ‘Profit First’ by Mike Michalowicz.

Favourite travel destination?

Oh gosh, this is a tricky one to answer! I’d probably have said Santorini, the Greek Island, right up until I went to Edinburgh in 2019 – it was pretty hard to come home actually, such an incredible city!

Favourite quote?

“Whenever you’re going through a bad day just remember, your track record for getting through bad days, so far, is 100%; and that’s pretty damn good.”
